Hello, and happy Tuesday! Today let’s talk about something else your copier can do. Did you know that, despite using a computer to print, you don’t really NEED a computer in order to print?
Yep, you read that right! You CAN print WITHOUT having a computer at hand. In fact, there’s TWO ways to accomplish this!
“Dude, you’re crazy. You absolutely need a computer or some other device to print from!” PART of this is true. You DO need some sort of device, but not necessarily a computer, smart phone, tablet, etc.
The first method only requires a USB flash drive with your desired documents already on it. For this, you simply plug your drive into the USB port on the copier, then tap “YES” on the screen to display the files on the drive. From there, select your chosen document, then tap print. From there, you will get roughly the same screen you would get when making a copy, with options such as printing in B&W, how many copies, duplex, etc. You can print out most document types, such as .DOC, .PDF, etc, as well as common image types .JPG, .PNG, etc.
The second method, involves having the documents EMAILED to the copier. You wouldn’t think that it could, but your copier can receive emails, in addition to sending them. In order to print a document via email, you must send it as an attachment. (Yes, I get it, this requires a computer or other internet connected device, but it does NOT require that YOU possess said device, as anyone can email the copier!). The machine will accept Word and PDF files. Unlike the USB drive method, this does not give you options, such as copy count, or color selection. Once it receives the attachment, it spits it out.
WATCH OUT: When I say anyone can email the copier, ANYONE that knows the copier’s email address can email it. Generally, this is the same email address that your copier uses to send emails. The copier will print ANYTHING that is emailed to it. You can however, use another email address just for this feature, as well as restrict what email addresses can send messages to your copier. By default, it is set to allow anyone to email it, however the feature is also off by default, so you would have to set it up.
And that, is two neat ways that you can get a document printed without having a computer or other connected device on hand.
