Happy Tuesday Everyone! Today, let’s talk about something cool your copier can be set up to do: Folding your prints and copies!

Folding papers. Fine to do by hand if you’re just doing one, but if you’re making a bunch of booklets or brochures, then you’ll want something to do it for you! Enter your trusty copier. You can have us add on what is called a folding unit. Did you know there are different types of folding units for your copier?

Yep! There’s a couple of different types: Booklet fold, and Z-fold.

BOOKLET FOLD: The booklet fold unit is best for exactly what it is branded as: Making booklets. Not only can the booklet folder do your usual bi-folds and tri-folds, but it also does booklets. While this seems like a bi-fold, a booklet folder also has the ability to staple folded sheets of paper, making a great booklet.

Z-FOLD: This one does the more complex Z-fold, aka folding your documents into a perfect “Z” shape. (Or an “N”, depending on how you hold it!). The Z-Fold unit can also do the basic bi and tri-folds.

Aside from the functions, there’s also physical differences between the two. The Booklet fold unit is fitted inside the main finisher on your copier, while the Z-Fold is it’s own unit entirely, sitting between the copier and finisher.

Z-Fold units are also only available for use on high speed (50ppm & 60ppm) copiers. The booklet folder is available for most all speeds.

What you intend to do in terms of paper folding will determine what folding unit will best fit your needs. If you only intend to do bi/tri-fold, then the booklet finisher is best as it does not take up much extra space due to it being internal to the finisher. If you are going to be doing Z-Folds then you will want the Z-Fold unit.

Bear in mind that adding a Z-Fold unit requires a high speed copier, and will make your copier a bit wider due to being an additional accessory. Be sure that you have adequate space where the machine will be set up.
